Answer: Me!
Yep, I’d love to volunteer for your nonprofit for free.
Who am I?
My name is David Spark, founder of Spark Media Solutions, a custom publishing/social media firm. So many companies and organizations want to be seen as leading voices in their field, but they try to do it with marketing, branding, and public relations alone, which is not possible. To develop thought leadership, organizations must create editorial content, just like any other media outlet does in order to create voice. And that’s exactly what our organization does. We help companies build their industry voice.
Please feel free to look at my bio, my blog, and my business site.
I’d love to help your nonprofit be seen as an industry leader.
Why I want to volunteer for your nonprofit
- While I’m very busy, I’d like to reserve 10-15 hours a month to volunteer for a nonprofit.
- I’ve been on a couple of nonprofit boards in the past and I’ve really enjoyed the experience.
- I’m eager to experiment with many different publishing and social media techniques.
- I’m looking to work with a nonprofit to generate stories of what works and what doesn’t work in social media.
What I’m looking for in a nonprofit
- I’d like to assist a nonprofit that’s already engaged in social media and is eager to do something more aggressive.
- OR I’d like to work with a nonprofit that’s sold on social media but just doesn’t know what to do first and needs some guidance.
- I’d also like an organization that has the staff to actually engage in social media. Even if they’re overloaded right now, there are ways to shift current efforts into the social sphere.
What I’m NOT looking for in a nonprofit
- I’m not looking for an organization that needs convincing that they should be spending time and money engaging in social media.
- I’m not looking for an organization that just wants me to do all the work for them.
Are we a good match?
Please just leave a comment on this blog post and let me know who you are, the name of your organization, what you’ve done, where you’d like to be, and ultimately how I can get in contact with you.
When will I make my decision?
Depending on response, I expect to make my decision by the end of the first week of December. I will be picking only one nonprofit for now.

Hi David,
Great to hear from your offer… which just comes at the right time for us!
Who are we? BrandOutLoud is a Dutch non-profit that provides tailor-made branding and communications to local aid organisations worldwide. It's goal is to boost local staff members to present a genuine, convincing and authoritative message to the world… it's all about identity. Knowing who you are and what you stand for.
With this in mind – social media is a very powerful tool and your help will be very valuable. Not only for us to get our message across, but also it will benefit the aid organisations we support.
Anyway, on behalf of BrandOutLoud I definitely see a match! You too?
Best,
Judith

Hi David,
I'm the Executive Director of BounceBack Kids, a nonprofit that provides programs and support services to children with serious illnesses and their families. We want to take our Social Media to the next level –and perhaps beyond -and are trying to figure out how to do that. We now have the staff in place to advance our social media efforts, and we are ready to start.
Thank you for making such a generous offer, and thank you for your time and consideration.
Best,
Lisa

David – we're your nonprofit, I'm sure of it!
I represent Community Shares of Colorado and we're shaking up the philanthropic world here in beautiful Colorado. We're going to celebrate our 25th anniversary next year and our communication strategies are already in the social sphere! We've evolving from a workplace giving federation into Colorado's community giving fund and with $20 million for the community with an average gift of LESS than $1 a day we show that every dollar makes a difference.
We're building buzz for our innovative new local program, My Colorado Project. Start a giving circle, have fun giving and realize that "philanthropy" is actually inclusive and accessible! We think its a model that can work elsewhere too! Local is the new national! Check it out: http://www.mycoloradoproject.org.
Hope we can do great things in 2011!

Hello David!
I am the Assistant Director of Social media for the Jimmy Fund which is the official Charity of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We have been involved to some degree in Social Media since Sept. 2007 and have a following of 20K+ on our Facebook page to get a sense of our scope. Particularly in New England, there is huge support for the Jimmy Fund and although we've worked hard for this, we know there is SO much more we can be doing and we would love feedback from an expert such as yourself.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Good morning David!
We represent Harbor House of Central Florida, a domestic violence shelter that seeks to eliminate domestic violence in Central Florida by providing safety, shelter, empowerment, education and justice. You can see all of our programs at our website http://www.harborhousefl.com.
We face unique challenges with social media due to our stringent confidentiality and privilege rules. We cannot involve any of our clients in social media or marketing. We have a facebook page, twitter, newsletter, and we are currently developing our linkedin profile and a blog designed to engage donors and volunteers on a more personal level. We are also revamping our volunteer and annual fund programs and we would love your help with designing a comprehensive social media plan that will enhance our brand portfolio and take our marketing initiatives to the next level.
Thank you for offering this much-needed service to non-profits and we look forward to your response!

What's better than a BIG donor? Hundreds and thousands of small ones !
Four years ago we created http://www.footprintsnetwork.org. The aim was to leverage e-commerce websites (e.g. WorldNomads.com) to fund community development projects around the world, by taking small donations when someone buys online. The result – just last month we crossed over the $1 million dollars of funds raised, from over 380,000 donors, who've helped fund 62 projects in line with the Millennium Development Goals.
However, can't stop there. We've re-engineered the technology so ANY e-commerce engine in the world can plug in Footprints. Imagine this – if Orbitz.com plugged footprints into their purchase path, and 70% of customers donated, we'd raise almost $40 million from just ONE website.
So, what do we need, Voices ! People like you to spread the word and help us convince other e-commerce businesses to plug Footprints in and start funding massive change in the world.
Please check out the site and feel free to contact me.
Cheers
Chris Noble

I'm reticent to tell all online, in public. Let's connect at your earliest convenience and I'll fill ya in on all the gory details. Hope to hear from you soon.
